Most Frequently Asked General Interview Questions

Posted by Vasanth Kamal On November - 15 - 2011

Here we have covered all the important interview questions and their probable answer that can be asked during interview process.interview

Tell me about yourselfOne of the most effective ways to prepare for this question is to develop a 60-second biographic sketch that emphasizes a pattern of interests, skills, and accomplishments.

My name is Rahul and I am from Mumbai the Industrial capital of India. I did my schooling from Mumbai. After that I perused graduation in B.Com from St.Stephan College with aggregate percentage of 73%. During my graduation I was involved in many extra-curricular activities. I also participated in many debate and dance competitions in which I stood second position. I always believe in right attitude and my strength lies in my positive attitude and to understand every situation in a positive way.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

“In five years I hope to be work with your organization in a responsible position that enables me to utilize my talents and work closely with my colleagues in solving important problems. I see myself taking on new and exciting challenges in an enjoyable environment and bring some positive result within your organization.”

Why did you leave your last job?

“Sir/Madam I was not getting the challenge and the type of work for which I want to work for. I always had the dream to work with your organization but to be in a safer side I was working in my previous job”.

Do you consider yourself successful?

“Yes, I believe in setting goals and thereby putting efforts to achieve that goal. Some times I do fail in achieving goal but immediately after the failure I analyze my mistakes and converting it to the success.”

What do you know about this organization?

“For this answer go www.wikipedia.com and search for your organization and make notes of that content and prepare yourself for the interview.”

Why do you want to work for this organization?

Tell something positive things about this company and relate with your goal.

“Sir/Madam Railway is the biggest employer in the world and is considered as the one of the best management organization which manages thousand of the trains daily, so definitely it would give me the challenge to work, it will teach me to manage everything in a different way apart from this I will get chance to meet different sections of people from the globe and will get the opportunity to resolve their issues.”

Or

“Sir/Madam Banking sector is the backbone of the country and your bank is considered as the best customer satisfaction bank so I will not get only chance to work with big brand but also get the opportunity to work in a challenging environment. I will be able to nourish my skill and get opportunity to understand customer’s behavior there by nurturing my managerial skill.”

Do you know anyone who works for us?

“If any of your relative/friend/neighbor work for this organization just tell them their post and location.”

What are the feedback’s you receive from them about our organization?

“Sir/Madam I don’t think I need to take any feedback from them as he/she is working from last 8 years and this itself shows that this organization is so good.”

Or Yes sir/madam we talk sometime and he tells the very interesting facts like working culture and transparency in your process.Are you a good team player?

“Yes, I am always involved in class activities during my graduation time and participated in many games in which I played as a team player and won many competitions.”

Explain how you would be an asset to this organization OR Why should we hire you?

“The most important thing in life is a right attitude and I believe myself a positive thinker so this would help to make good coordination with the colleagues there by making the office environment healthy.”

Tell me any changes that would you like to bring within this organization.

“As there is no big change required but at some levels little things needs to be changed like proper evaluation of the employee that would help him/her to get better opportunity within organization. Motivation classes which will reduce stress level and up-to-date training on modern functionalities that will make employee more effective and result driven.”

What is more important to you: the money or the work?

“Both are equally important. If I am given a good work but not rewarded or paid well then definitely my morale will get reduce similarly if I am paid well but has not been assigned good work then my skill will get down.”

What motivates you to do your best on the job?

“Challenging work, continuous learning and career scope”

Would you be willing to relocate if required?

“I always believe in flexibility. But my first priority will always be my home location but in this current scenario I am ready to locate anywhere because at the initial level I have to learn and make me effective”.

If you were hiring a person for this job, what would you look for?

“Flexibility, Positive attitude, learning spirit” Do you have any questions for me? “Always have some questions prepared.”Or“What is the future plan for your organization in terms of market perspective?” Or “How organization is taking help of technology to become world class organization”

Why have you chosen the government job over private jobs as private jobs gives more salary and perks?

“Recently we have seen the downfall of Satyam this was the eye opener for whole globe that private jobs are not secured, definitely we can get good salary but in terms of life satisfaction and social coordination only government job can give”Or “Six pay commissions have already come into existence so we will get the same level of salary as private job gives.”Or To be secured government job is always being the best over private jobs.”

What are your strengths?

“My strengths are interpersonal skills, and I can usually win people over to my point of view. Also, I have good judgment about people and an intuitive sense of their talents and their ability to contribute to a given problem. “ Or “I am a regular improver (try to show that you are regular improver). My percentage has consistently increased from class 10th to graduation.” Or ”I never loose hope this is my third attempt after the two times rejection in written test and this time I cleared the test and sitting in front of you”

What are some of your major weaknesses?

This is not the time to confess all your problems or to confidently say you have no weaknesses. The best way to handle this question is to mention personal weaknesses that should look strength also that you have already improved upon. For example,
“I have a real weakness for chocolate that tends to go right to my waist! I’m watching my calories carefully these days!”Or“I’ve never been good with accounting. I’m glad this job doesn’t involve accounting.”Or “I have a tendency to take on too much on my own. I am working on this by delegating more.”Or I am not too much social .I am working on this by interacting relatives/friends and attending social parties

How do you manage stress in your daily work?

“I try to get out for lunch at least once during the week to clear my head.” Or “I memorize the best moment of my life and just reducing the stress.”

Educational Background Why did you attend that particular college?

“I chose this college because of its competitive atmosphere and the good reputation. This college emphasizes on practical, job-related courses and student participation in activities related to their specific career plans”.

Did your family have any influence on your choice of college?

“My family is always supportive to me and gives suggestions in a needful time, but they realized I was pretty sure of myself and knew what I wanted. They stood back and let me decide. They agreed with my decision and encouraged me to go ahead with this.”

Why didn’t you do better in school or your marks are so less?

“Apart from studies I was just involved with other activities and growing up. I always got along with my teachers and classmates, and I even won awards for (perfect attendance/science projects/debate club). The importance of grades did not have an impact on me then. I believe in clarifying the concept and in exams, apart from knowledge some others factors plays a very important role like writing speed and hand writing. Today I am sitting in front of you because of my clear concept and reducing the mistakes that brought low marks.”

What was your favorite subject in college?

“Name those subjects which you know very well. Try to prepare at least two subject of your graduation before going to interview.”

Did your grade/marks average reflect your work ability?

“My grades were above average to excellent, and I think my work record has been the same. There is a different method of evaluation in school, of course, and I’ve worked harder on the job than I did in school. At work, it is results that count, and I have always been able to achieve results. It’s not just what you know, but what you do with what you know. This has always been my formula for career success. “ OR ”I earned average grades in school, but my work record has been good to excellent. In school you are evaluated simply by how well you show what you know. At work it’s what you do with what you know, the results you achieve counts for everything. I have always concentrated on the result, and I’ve always delivered. ”

Name two things you learned in your college that can help you in job.

“Many of the subjects I studied in school specifically apply to this field, including … ,…, and … Yet what school really taught me that has worked throughout my career was how to solve problems, how to apply myself, and, finally, how to set a goal and achieve it.”

Do you subscribe to any magazines or professional journals? Which ones?

“Yes, I subscribe to and read ______________. (Mention the most influential journals in your field. If you don’t know then simply say I used to read news paper.”

What is your hobby/interest?Cooking

If your hobby is cooking then be prepare for these types question 1 When did you start cooking? Who taught you to cook? 2What kind of variety did you have in food?What foods were cooked for celebrations or special events? What did you eat in a typical daily meal? What was a Sunday meal? What was your mother’s favorite dish to make? If interviewer asks you to tell to make any recipe then confidently answer whatever you know, also prepare some words related with cooking from the dictionary.

How to Select The Right Engineering College ?

Posted by Vasanth Kamal On November - 7 - 2011

The question arises that how to decide a college when there are thousands of engineering colleges in India. In this article we will discuss some of the features of collegeswhich will help you choose the right college. There are various factor while deciding acollege for admission but always keep in mind the following factors while choosing a college:

Infrastructure: This is the most important factor while choosing a college Infrastructuredoes not means good looking building only. It means that whether a college has sufficient amount of infrastructure according to it’s intake capacity. It include classroom, administrative building, workshop, computer labs, various laboratories etc. Because during your four year of graduation you need all these things, so keep it your first preference while choosing a college.
Faculty: Having a good infrastructure is not enough only. After having a sufficient infrastructure it is the faculty that make it useful, otherwise it will be a school without a teacher. Always have a look on college faculty which include Professors, reader, lecturer, teacher-student ratio, visiting faculty, teaching experience etc.

Facilities: This is another important factor that you have to keep in mind.Facilities provided by college assist you during your college period.It include Library, Internet, intranet, hostels, seminar halls, dispensary, student clubs, gym etc.

Placements:This is the most important factor while deciding a college. It not mean that it is the first and last criteria to choose a college. Placements of a college depend upon many factor like it’s infrastructure,faculty,facilities provided by college to it’s student,college rank, past performance of the students in company, and last but not the least individual talent and personality and many more factors. Have a look on past placement record of college branch wise as well as company wise.So keep all the things in mind while deciding a college.

Extra curricular activities:
 This is also one of the factor that should be taken into account because “all work and no play make  jack a dull boy” this is true beacuse you have not to study only but have to survive  in a competitive environment and for that u have to be a good personality.Extra curricular activities play a very important role in your personality development.So have a look about extra activities provided by college like, annual function, sport function, students club, seminars and workshops, industrial training, social activities, NCC, NSS etc.

Location:
 This factor does not play a very important role but if it is nearby any industrial or software hub then it may be slightly useful to you as far as your industrial training and placement is concerned but keep this factor at last.

So now question arises that how you can get so much of information about each and every college there are some tips for you

1.Visit the college web site on Internet

2.consult your seniors

3.visit the college personally if possible

4.Take the help of counsellor

Top 50 Government Engineering Colleges

Posted by Vasanth Kamal On September - 27 - 2011

The list of Top Government Engineering Colleges for 2007 is out !
Outlook India has recently come up with the updated rankings of top 50 Engineering colleges. As you know Top lists are my favorite and I had earlier published of 2006. This year Outlook has published two different lists – One Government and One private – unlike a mixed one like last time.
The methodology for rankings remain the same like last time. Here are the meaning of abbreviations.

  • IC: Intellectual Capital
  • PS: Pedagogic systems (the art or science of teaching; instructional methods)
  • II: Industry Interface
  • P: Placements
  • IF: Infrastructure and Facilities
  • T: Total

If you compare last years list and this years list, there are a few changes:
The Top 3 Colleges remain the same, however, Kanpur has taken the top spot this time pushing IIT Kharagpur in second place. Significantly, In , only one private college (BITS Pilani) was featured.

WSJtop200mostadmiredasiancompanies Top 10 Most Admired Companies in India
According to the survey conducted by Wall Street Journal on Top 200 most admired companies in Asia, Infosys Technologies has been named the most Admired company in India.

Here is a run down on the most admired Indian Companies:

Top 10 Most admired companies in India

  1. Infosys Technologies (Annual Sales of over $4 billion)
  2. Tata Consultancy Services (largest Indian Outsourcer by Sales)
  3. Bharti Airtel (In mergers talks with MTN Group)
  4. Larsen & Toubro (in deal to build nuclear reactors)
  5. Wipro (Global workforce of close to 100k)
  6. Tata Steel (Manufacturing units in 27 countries)
  7. Hindustan Lever (has more than 400 brands)
  8. HDFC Bank (Incorporated in 1994)
  9. State Bank of India (planning to add 1000 branches)
  10. ITC (Wide-range Conglomerate)

Infosys Technologies is adjudged as the most admired company in India followed by TCS and Bharti Airtel in 2 and 3rd position respectively.

The ranking has broadly taken 5 different aspects into consideration.

  • Financial Reputation
  • Corporate Reputation
  • Quality
  • Innovation
  • Vision

Following are the individual ranking of various parameters:

Fiancial Reputation

FinancialReputation Top 10 Most Admired Companies in India

With the biggest reserves and deposits than any other bank in India, SBI takes the numero Uno position when it comes to Financial Reputation. Reliance Industries, followed by HDFC bank complete the top 3 positions.

Corporate Reputation

CorporateReputation Top 10 Most Admired Companies in India

Infosys Technologies known for its exemplary Governance and transparency in corporate dealing comes at top followed by 2 Tata companies, TCS and Tata Steel

Quality

Quality Top 10 Most Admired Companies in India

Again with excellent quality of Software deliveries, Infosys takes the top position, followed by L&T and Bharti Airtel.

Innovation

Innovation Top 10 Most Admired Companies in India

Now this is a big surprise to me, TCS takes in the top position in Innovation. I always related TCS as a Volume player without much innovation, but I seem to be completely wrong here.

Infact, TCS is the most admired company for innovation, followed by Bharti Airtel and Infosys Technologies

Vision

Vision Top 10 Most Admired Companies in India

With visionaries like Narayan Murthy and Nandan Nilekani at the helm, Infosys Technologies had to take the top position when it comes to vision. Tata Steel surprisingly (at least for me) comes at 2nd followed by Reliance Industries.

Writing Your First Android Application

Posted by Vasanth Kamal On July - 13 - 2011
Hi,
Geeks

After showing students response to the mobile app dev, we decided to start new thread to our website for mobile app dev.
This is out first tutorial to design your first simple android app.
This tutorial assumes that you are well acquainted with Java, done with Installing of Android setup in your Development Environment or Development Computer and have already created a new project in Eclipse.The application built in this tutorial will demonstrate how to do various tasks in Android over making a truly productive application.

If you don’t know how to install it go through http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html
Application Design:
Let’s see what here we are looking to build:

We are looking to build a Login Application which on Successful Validation, redirect user on Browser. Let’s see in detail.
Setup Application Resources:
Android people did an excellent job creating a project layout that allows you to easily separate data from code. The res/directory in the project stores layout, images, and application data.
Strings
Now let’s see how to set and use different features provided by Android, starting from String, open res/values/strings.xmlwhich holds static strings of the project.
Next add strings named “login_page_heading” by clicking add then select string and press OK. A new String will appear in the list and the input fields to the right should be blank. Enter “login_page_heading” in the name and “LOGIN MODULE” in the value fields both without quotes and save it by CTRL+s. Do the same for other strings we need to create like shown in following screen:

At the bottom of the pane there are 2 tabs, resources and strings.xml. Click the strings.xml tag to view the raw XML of the file, which is visible in above screen. You can add String manually by switching to raw XML mode of the file.
Android Layouts
Android builds display components out of views. The views are built from XML files that tell android how to build the display. These layouts are stored in res/layout/. Open the res/layout/main.xml layout file. The Eclipse SDK includes a visual layout tool that should have come up.
We have used RelativeLayout amongst plenty of Layout provided by Android. Let’s create our login application layout.
RelativeLayout
The RelativeLayout is simple Android layout. RelativeLayouts allows you to position objects relative to other objects on the page. Right click on res/layouts/ and select New > Android XML file. In the dialog box enter anyname.xml for the File. This is to create new layout but we are using main.xml which has been, by default, provided by Android.
Click on TextView and drag it into the view from the left Panel under “Form Widgets” option, once done you would be able to see a TextView in your view screen and in bottom pane you could change its properties as usual, set its id to “@+id/TextViewHeading” something relative to its job, set its width and height according to screen, what text you wanted to display in this TextView so set text field to “@string/login_page_heading”, a string we already added in previous section in string.xml file, now after making such changes you would be able to see few changes in your view panel.
Same way you can add different widgets in the screen and set their positions according to each other or previous and later one as Relative layout positions components relative to each other, and change their properties.
Let’s see a ScreenShot which explains what we have done up till now in this Layout Section:
We are going to explore visual layout tool, to design a layout for our login screen:

Here in above screen we have shown how you can design an attractive User Interface for your application.
Android Manifest file
Android Manifest file is simply a doorway to any Android Application as it checks which of the permissions this application is asking for and which are the activities listed in the application and what are their role. We can say like as in Java main() is the starting point of an Application, here its AndroidManifest file.

<?xmlversion="1.0"encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifestxmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.motionfrog.example.LoginBrowser"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0">
<applicationandroid:icon="@drawable/icon"android:label="@string/app_name">
<activityandroid:name=".LoginBrowser"
android:label="@string/app_name">
<intent-filter>
<actionandroid:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"/>
<categoryandroid:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER"/>
</intent-filter>
</activity>
	</application>
	<uses-permissionandroid:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/>
</manifest>

Notice the manifest starts with the standard xml tag. Then there is a manifest tag that links to the schema and defines the package, versionCode, and versionName attributes. Nested inside the manifest tag is an application tag. The application tag has the attributes android:icon and android:label that define the applications icon and the label respectively. The application tag contains the activity nodes that define the accessible activities of the application.
When the project was created the first activity for LoginBrowser was pre-populated into the file.
The intent-filter tag is used to declare the intents for the activity. Intent is simply a tag defining an attributes of the activity. The action tag with a name of “android.intent.action.MAIN” and category tag with a name of “android.intent.category.LAUNCHER” allows the activity to be an initial activity and will list the activity in the Android application launcher.
If you want to add new Activity you can simply add these statements in raw XML mode

<activityandroid:name="NextActivity"
android:label="@string/app_name">
</activity>

Or you can add by Visual View of it.

Press Add and provide necessary information with respect to create new Activity.
Build Java File
Now when we are almost ready with UI and other work, what is left is to code for our Login Application which intense to open a Browser on Successful Login.
When we created a new Project it by default comes with following code:

packagecom.motionfrog.example.LoginBrowser;

importandroid.app.Activity;
importandroid.os.Bundle;

publicclassLoginBrowserextends Activity {
/** Called when the activity is first created. */
@Override
publicvoidonCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);
    }
}

Let’s add such functionality that on button click it check whether Username and password equals to something, on matching we will redirect user on browser with a URL.
Create two Buttons, two EditText so that we can verify them and set some action to them and two strings for simple validation purpose.

private Button mButtonLogin, mButtonReset;
privateEditTextmUserInputBox, mPasswordInputBox;
private String mUserName="motionfrog", mPassword="motionfrog";

Initialize those views created in Xml file, like two EditTexts for Username Password, two Buttons for Login and Reset.
mButtonLogin=(Button)findViewById(R.id.ButtonLogin);
mButtonReset=(Button)findViewById(R.id.ButtonReset);
mUserInputBox=(EditText)findViewById(R.id.EditTextUser);
mPasswordInputBox=(EditText)findViewById(R.id.EditTextpassword);
Now put an OnClickListener event on both the buttons:
mButtonLogin.setOnClickListener(newOnClickListener() {
@Override
publicvoidonClick(View arg0) {

}
});

Now within this OnClickListener read inputs of EditTexts we have created for Username and Password and validate them with strings we created up above, just to check that whether user has entered username = “motionfrog” and password = “motionfrog”.

if(mUserInputBox.getText().toString().equals(mUserName)
		&&mPasswordInputBox.getText().toString().equals(mPassword)){
}
else {

}

Within this If condition add an Intent to open up a browser with passing a static URL

Intent browser = newIntent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
browser.setData(Uri.parse("http://www.motionfrog.com"));
startActivity(browser);

And within else you can add code to show a Toast to inform user.

Toast.makeText(LoginBrowser.this, "wrong username or password", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();

Let’s see an Output of above code:
I know you are facing it hard or little bit complex, but i am here you can comment your problems will replay ASAP.

So Start Android now :)
